2010 PTT Pattaya Open attains new highs
![]() The Organising Committee of the 2010 PTT Pattaya Open have declared the tournament a big success as spectators and media coverage of the event saw big increases against the figures achieved in 2009. The number of spectators attending the tournament increased by 15 %,whilst media coverage in all areas saw substantial improvements over the previous year: print media coverage was up by 16%, web-based media jumped by 42%, national TV coverage showed a dramatic rise of 60% and international TV coverage rocketed by over 300% due to “live” coverage being extended to 3 days and an increase in the number of networks worldwide broadcasting the PTT Pattaya Open. Also branded a success was the performance of the Thai players, led by Tamarine Tanasugarn, who reached the singles final and completed back to back wins in the doubles competition. Besides Tamarine, the three players in the qualifying draw also put in good performances with Nudnida Luangnam winning through to the main draw and Nicha Lertpitaksinchai and Nungnudda Wannasuk winning matches in the qualifying draw. Congratulations also to Vera Zvonareva of Russia who became the first player ever to achieve back to back singles titles in the 19 year history of the tournament. In 2011, the tournament will be celebrating 20 years on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, so it will be a special occasion in the history of Thai tennis. Subject to confirmation on the dates from the WTA, the tournament will be held from 6 – 13 February 2011 with the venue yet to be named. |
