Thai Juniors win big in Portugal

The Mercedes-Benz junior golf team returned triumphant from its trip to Portugal after competing in the Oceanico World Kids Golf Championship at Amendoeira Golf Resort in the Algarve region from 26 – 30 July.

Competing in the 3-day event in unfamiliar conditions against over 100 golfers from around Europe, the Thai team battled to victory in three classes and finished a close second in another three classes. The winners were Bandhit Chaisuk in the Boys 14 and under class, Puriphan Jangthongsiri in the Girls 18 and under class and Benyapa Niphatsophon in the Girls 15 and under class.

Claiming second place finishes were Pichamon Ausawasussakhon in the Girls 15 and under class, Pachara Sakulyong in the Boys 14 and under class and Phakorn Pongvanit in the Boys 18 and under class.

In addition, there were special awards for Puriphan Jangthongsiri, who was named “Best Female Player” at the tournament and Pachara Sakulyong who was given a special award as the only player to shoot a round under par on the tough Faldo course during the tournament.

This was the first year that the Mercedes-Benz team has competed in Portugal, and as part of an exchange programme young Portuguese golfers will be competing in the MercedesTrophy Junior Golf Championships in Thailand next year.  

The Mercedes-Benz Junior golf team comprised of winners from the MercedesTrophy Junior Golf Championships Masters Final. To qualify for the Masters Final the junior golfers need to play in the qualifying series which runs from September to the following May.
