It was defending champion Daniela Hantuchova who survived the marathon three hour 14-minute thriller to win 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-3. The match was just 10 minutes short of the longest WTA final ever played, and it was the first time that the Slovak has successfully defended a title. Tennis doesn’t come much better than what was on show in the semi-finals of the PTT Pattaya Open, as the fourth-seeded Russian edged to a 6-2 5-7 6-4 victory over seventh seed Sorana Cirstea of Romania. She will play defending champion Daniela Hantuchova in the final after the third seeded Slovak ended the run of Taiwanese qualifier Su-Wei Hsieh 6-4 6-1. Kirilenko, who faced match point against Casey Dellacqua in her first round and battled back from 2-5 in the third set in her second round match with Anastasia Rodionova, could have won in straight sets.
