Tammy sets her sights on winning the Pattaya Women's Open

The US$170,000 "Pattaya Women's Open" professional women's tennis tournament, which is part of the Sony Ericsson WTA tour and is supported by Pattaya City and Chonburi province will be held at the Dusit Resort, Pattaya from 3 - 11 February 2007.

The tournament attracts leading tennis players from the around the world and plays an important role as a stepping stone for Thai players to compete at a professional level, including Thailand's leading women's tennis star Tamarine Tanasugarn, who reached the final here in 1996. Tamarine, fresh from her successful run at the PTT Bangkok Open, where she lost a closely fought final to American teen star Vania King is aiming to go one better at Pattaya next year and win the tournament.

Tamarine revealed that "she is very happy to play on home soil, as she gets tremendous support from the Thai fans. In her last outing at the PTT Bangkok Open she did not expect to reach the final, but was motivated by the support from the Thai fans who cheered her all the way to the final. She is disappointed not to have won. Her recent experience at the Asian Games has shown how quickly the Asian women's players have in developed in the last 2- 3 years. In order to keep pace with them, she is working hard on improving her own game. Tammy will start her 2007 season at the Australian Open and play in Japan before returning home to Pattaya, where she is hoping to be the champion."
